This premium wood species is not only beautiful to look at, but also offers several practical benefits. Cedar wood is lightweight, making the sun lounger easy to lift and reposition. In addition, red cedar naturally contains essential oils that protect the wood against rot and insects. Another major advantage is that red cedar remains pleasantly cool in the sun – ideal for a wooden Adirondack sun lounger.

Good to know: The wood used by Comfy Chair comes from strictly managed forests in Canada. The Canadian government enforces strict regulations on logging and sustainable forest management. As a result, the wood is sourced, produced and processed responsibly.
Finally, please note that, like all wood types, cedar will gradually develop a silvery-grey patina when exposed to UV light. This also applies to the wooden Adirondack sun loungers from Comfy Chair. The Sun Loungers are available in two materials: wood and plastic. In terms of shape, both versions are identical. However, there are differences in weight and heat absorption. We have listed the main differences for you:

Sun loungers made from red cedar are ideal for those who like to follow the sun throughout the day. Thanks to the lightweight wood, the lounger can be moved easily. Despite its low weight, cedar is very strong and has a long service life. With normal use and occasional maintenance, you can enjoy your wooden Adirondack sun lounger for decades.

The plastic sun loungers are made from solid plastic sheets. This ensures that the colour remains stable, even under prolonged UV exposure. However, it also makes the loungers heavy, meaning they are usually left in one place. Plastic sun loungers are extremely robust and virtually indestructible. While the wooden version may be damaged by very careless use, it takes considerable effort to damage a plastic sun lounger. For this reason, we often recommend this option to hospitality businesses. Another advantage is the minimal maintenance required: an occasional clean is all it takes.
Maintaining a wooden Adirondack sun lounger
Red cedar is a wood species with an exceptionally long lifespan. When handled properly and maintained from time to time, your wooden Adirondack sun lounger can last for many decades. To help you, we have written a blog on wooden furniture maintenance. In short:
Clean wooden sun loungers occasionally with mild soapy water, especially after winter, to prepare your garden furniture for spring.
Sun loungers can remain outdoors all year round, as red cedar is weather-resistant. Over time, the wood will naturally turn grey. Alternatively, you may store the lounger indoors during winter to reduce cleaning in spring.
Weather exposure may cause the surface to feel rough. This can easily be remedied with fine-grit sandpaper.
Never clean with a pressure washer. Red cedar is a soft wood and can be damaged by high pressure.
Every five years, we recommend carrying out a small maintenance service, mainly refreshing the wood glue to maintain the strength and stability of the furniture.
Assembling the Adirondack sun lounger
At Comfy Chair, we offer several assembly options for our wooden Adirondack sun loungers:
1. Flat-pack
The standard option is a flat-pack. When you order a Sun Lounger, you receive a cardboard box containing all individual parts. With the help of clear instructions and an assembly video, you can assemble the sun lounger yourself. It takes a little time, but it is perfectly doable for anyone.
2. Partially assembled
For a small additional charge, you can order the sun lounger partially assembled. This means we have already completed most of the assembly work. You only need to follow a few final steps. If you are interested in this option, please contact our Customer Service team. We will discuss transport options and find the most suitable delivery method.
3. Fully assembled
Would you rather leave the tools in the shed? That is also possible. We can deliver your wooden Adirondack sun lounger fully assembled. As with the other options, our Customer Service team will be happy to discuss transport possibilities and costs with you.
